Aetna Healthy Commitments Wellness Program Helps Employers Improve Employee Health and Control Health Care Costs

Program now available to Aetna’s Public & Labor customers

HARTFORD, Conn., June 04, 2012 — Over the past year, Aetna (NYSE: AET) has been offering innovative new wellness programs to small and medium-sized employers designed to meet their varying needs, and more than 600 employers have already enrolled in these new wellness programs. Building on this success, Aetna is now offering Aetna Healthy CommitmentsSM, which provides resources and incentives to help improve employees’ health and well-being while also guaranteeing reductions in health care expenses for the employer.

Acting on customer feedback, Aetna has made two important enhancements to the Aetna Healthy Commitments program:

• Increasing the guaranteed savings for employers to 2 percent on health care trend when their employees meet minimum participation levels.1
• Providing customers with access to additional incentives to encourage employee participation.

“It is very simple – the Aetna Healthy Commitments program saves money for employers by helping their employees improve their health,” said Kim Keck, head of Aetna’s Middle Markets business. “The programs we offer are proven and we will guarantee lower health care costs, an important focus for every business.”

Finding the Right Option
The Aetna Healthy Commitments program offers employers the choice between the Enhanced package and the Premier package. Both packages are simple, bundled solutions that can meet employers’ varying needs and budgets by providing tools and programs to ensure employee engagement and participation.

The Aetna Healthy Commitments Enhanced package includes the wellness programs most requested by Aetna’s customers, including worksite biometric screenings and member incentives. The Enhanced package also includes Aetna Health Connections Get Active! Shape Up Challenge, a new program which incorporates social networking to engage employees throughout a fitness challenge.

The Premier package includes all of the features of the Enhanced package, plus the Healthy Lifestyle Coaching program. Healthy Lifestyle Coaching provides one-to-one personal support to employees, targeting sustained behavioral changes in a number of different areas, such as weight management, tobacco cessation, stress management, nutrition, physical activity, and preventive health.

Expanding to More Employers
Based on the success of Aetna Healthy Commitments, Aetna recently expanded the program to Public & Labor customers with less than 3,000 employees. Aetna’s Public & Labor customers cover a wide range of public sector and labor entities, such as states, counties, cities, school districts, municipalities and labor organizations.

“The Healthy Commitments program is a great fit for our customers, who continue to face significant budget challenges as a result of tax revenue cuts and overall economic pressure,” said Cain Hayes, President of Aetna’s Public & Labor business. “We can help our members achieve better health outcomes and adopt healthy behaviors through our wellness programs, helping these customers realize short-term and long-term health care cost savings.”
